Law enforcement requests: Under certain circumstances, law enforcement officials may obtain a patient's protected health care information. This saves time (and paper) by having the information at your fingertips.
Most health care systems now offer an online patient portal, where you can log directly into a read-only format of your medical record. Medical records can be collected in paper form or electronically, whichever you prefer. law gives patients the right to see, get copies of, and sometimes even change their medical records. Indiana University Health saves medical records for a minimum of eight years. We cannot fax or e-mail medical records without written consent from the patient (this must be done in-person at the time of your visit and varies by department). You may request a copy of your child’s medical record in a paper format prior to the end of your child’s stay with us, upon discharge or whenever you need a physical copy. You may also pick them up in-person with a valid driver's license. If you need copies or access to medical records, you must call the appropriate hospital's medical records department directly.
